Mono-printing and Collage workshop
Creating one-off prints with quick, exciting results. Exploring colour, contrast, form line and tone
Working with 40 gifted and talented pupils across the whole school at Downton Primary School, as part of an exhibition at Five Rivers Leisure Centre in Salisbury.
Inspiration for this school project was the love of nature and exploring the parable 'The Mustard Seed' looking at images of nature, trees and birds. "The Kingdom of Heaven is like a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field; which indeed is smaller than all seeds. But when it is grown, it is greater than the herbs, and becomes a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in its branches."
Mono-printing is a simple process that can be done without a printing press. This printmaking technique involves drawing on the back of paper, which has been placed directly onto a smooth inked surface, giving the image a beautiful tonal quality to the line.
Chine Collé is a technique that allows you to add colour to your mono-print by collaging pieces of thin coloured papers and sticking them onto some paper, before printing over the top.
