Monoprinting

Create a unique one-off print, exploring contrast, form and tone.

This printing technique involves the children drawing on the back of their paper, which has been placed directly onto a smooth inked surface, using pens, pencils, graphite sticks and their fingers to create different tones.

This printing process gives the image a beautiful quality to the line and creates a unique one off print.

Children enjoy seeing the different tonal effects created by using different drawing tools. An important part of the printmaking process is clean hands as we don’t want any smudges on our clean paper!

Relief printing

Children will create a printing block using Styrofoam, by etching into the foam with a variety of mark-making tools to create impressions in the foam base. Experimenting with colour and mark exploration by creating lines, dots and shapes, before transferring their designs to paper using the pasta-printing press or brayers, they will have the opportunity to overlap the original print in contrasting colours or add additional lines and marks to their base and reprint.

This direct hands-on process enables them to have a real connection to the work created as they witness their artwork unfold right before them.
