3D Paper Construction

Think architecture, think playground?

Simple activity exploring the possibilities of paper construction

Perfect activity for both child and adult to experiment with and develop 3D ideas and forms quickly. This activity requires very little preparation and you can use items from around the house if you don't have a wide variety of paper to hand.

Be imaginative and playful, test and explore the papers possibilities and make your own architectural forms.

Construction techniques: cut, bend, pleat, score and fold, make tabs, slots, loops, rolls and spirals.

You will need ·      Cardboard base – could use packaging boxes/cereal box ·      Thick coloured construction paper- pre-cut strips of paper work well. ·      Scissors ·      Glue ·      Cellotape ·      Stapler (optional) ·      Hole punch (optional)

Other things you could use or try

.     Straws

. Envelopes (they often have patterned insides!)

. Newspaper

. Masking tape

Talk through and explain your creation together, ask questions 'What was your idea?'  'What’s you favourite thing about your design?'. All creations will be different.

What you will have learnt and achieved from this activity ·      Problem solving - discovering ways to connect and construct. ·      Manipulating materials - developing dexterity and fine motor skills,

by folding and bending the paper. ·      Creative thinking - using their imaginations. ·      Exploration and experimentation - exploring their ideas and materials. ·      Evaluating and analysing creative works - sharing ideas and imagination.

Please share your creations and give me a mention! @artlab.workshops #artclubfromhome
