Pop-up spring garden

Create your own pop-up card

Really easy to make, celebrate the joy of spring and send to loved ones.

You will need:

. A4 Card or thick paper - any colour

. Thick, brightly coloured, construction papers - I used pre-painted paper (you can paint it yourself)

. Scissors

· Glue

. Pencils

. Ruler

. Bone folder - optional

. You can also decorate using: Colouring pencils/ pens / crayons

. Envelope - optional

What to do!

Fold one A4 sheet of card or thick paper in half and score using the bone folder or the edge of a ruler to crease. Next, use the ruler against the folded edge and mark out your tabs. Note: tabs need to be between 3cm - 6cm long, any bigger and they will pop outside the card when the card is closed.

Cut along the parallel slits and then fold the tabs up and crease (as shown in the picture above). Once all tabs are creased, open up your card and pop the tabs out inside the card, as shown above, to form the supports for your plants.

Now the fun begins - creating your spring garden! Draw and cut out your plants, you can add butterflies, snails and bees etc. It is your garden so be imaginative!

Note: if the pop-up plants and flowers are made too tall, they'll pop out of the card when closed, so make sure before you glue that they are not too long.

What you will have learnt and achieved from this activity

. Paper construction techniques and design

. Manipulate materials – developing dexterity and fine motor skills,

. Creative thinking - using their imaginations

. Practice writing- write a message to your family
